ARICEPT (donepezil HCl) is a prescription medicine to treat mild Alzheimer’s disease (up to 10 mg/day) and moderate to severe Alzheimer’s disease (up to 23 mg/day). Before starting on ARICEPT 23 mg/day, patients should be on ARICEPT 10 mg/day for at least 3 months. The starting dose of ARICEPT is 5 mg/day and can be increased to 10 mg/day after 4-6 weeks. Generic versions are available in Canada and were FDA approved in September 2006. Mylan Pharmaceuticals was recently granted final approval for generic topiramate 25, 100, and 200 mg tablets and sprinkle capsules by the FDA for sale in the US. 50 mg tablets were granted tentative approval. The last patent for topiramate in the U.S. was for pediatric use; this patent expired on February 28, 2009.

 

It was first marketed by Eli Lilly and Company, and it is today commonly known as EES (erythromycin ethylsuccinate, an ester prodrug that is commonly administered). In structure, this macrocyclic compound contains a 14-membered lactone ring with ten asymmetric centers and two sugars (L-cladinose and D-desosamine), making it a compound very difficult to produce via synthetic methods.
The study also revealed that the screening ability of HbA1c in non-Hispanic Americans differed by race. For example, researchers observed more false- negative results and fewer false-positive results in whites than blacks.
