Why we say no to speculative design

14/01/2011

We found a great letter thanks to @martuishere on the subject. We abide religiously by number 3 and thus feel the need to post it here:

Unlike advertising agencies, we are not in the business of selling. We love our work and we love showing off the diversity of work we’ve done (please ask to see our portfolio!) but that’s because every project is crafted with thought and research, and with respect for our clients. We put all our resources into every client that engages us because we don’t need to save our best ideas to sell ourselves to potential new clients.

At the design exhibit

20/12/2010

Last friday all the interaction design students and I attended the “Design, Greatest Hits” exhibit at the Círculo de Bellas Artes. I found the curation to be weak. It was a fun evening though.

Steamed Japanese subway style

10/12/2010

I just came back from Tokyo where I had a great dinner with some local friends. I remember I found it surprising that they kind of competed about who had the best metro line close to his or her place. As a tourist I usually took the metro on non-rush hours so I didn’t see the point in that. Now I understand:

Tokyo metro can get veery crowded in rush hours and photographer Michael Wolf documented it in a funny/sad series of pictures of people getting steamed and compressed at the same time.

Drugs: charts and infographics

6/08/2010

I’ve been collecting charts and infographics about drugs for a while. The topic is multidimensional and that makes it interesting for visual representations. Some of its facets:

  • type of effect (euphoria, relax, allucinations…)
  • level of addiction provoked (very, little, extreme…)
  • legal consequences of consuming/dealing (jail, misdeameanor…)
  • secondary effects (nausea, sleep, appetite)
    price

  • social acceptance
  • context of consumption (marginal, social, individual…)

And here are the charts, numbered for your convenience when commenting:

Am I missing any classic that should be on this collection?

My favorite is #1 for obvious reasons. Which one is yours, you little druggies?

Remembering old sing-alongs

1/07/2010

Today is Canada day. We salute all canadians around the world especially our own Mark McKay who’s in Canda right now and will be there for a month. We’ll sure miss him.

So, to commemorate such a grandiose day here is our favorite canadian hymn ‘Canadian, please’ by Gunnarolla. To celebrate, people have been remixing the original video.
